Cindy Melby Phaneuf

Cindy is an Isaacson Professor of Theatre at the University of Nebraska—Omaha. She is a co-founder of the Nebraska Shakespeare Festival and served as its Artistic Director from 1986 to 2010, directing Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth and Henry V, among others.  Cindy has received numerous awards including a previous Isaacson Professor of Research and Creative Activity, the University Outstanding Teaching Award and the YWCA Woman of the Year Award for the Arts.  She is Past President of the Shakespeare Theatre Association, where she planned the International Conference at the Royal Shakespeare Company and Shakespeare’s Globe.  In previous years at GPTC, Cindy directed Tales of the Last Formicans, Take Me to the River, and Alchemy of Desire/Dead Man’s Blues.   Cindy served as President of the National Theatre Conference.  Most recently, she was elected to the College of Fellows of the American Theatre.
