Valerie St. Pierre Smith

Aanii (hello). Valerie St. Pierre Smith is an award-winning costume designer, artisan and stylist with an eclectic background including stage, fashion, dance, film and themed entertainment. Her work has been seen coast to coast at the Kennedy Center, Woolly Mammoth Theatre, Sea World: San Diego, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, on runways and in editorial photo shoots. Some of her favorite credits include The Marionette Effect (Kennedy Center/VSA), Grandchildren of the Buffalo Soldiers (NMAI), Antebellum (Woolly Mammoth Theatre), Elinor Antin’s Last Days of Pompeii (makeup) and Terrors of the Deep (Sea World, San Diego). Valerie fell into costume design during her undergraduate studies at Stephens College, received her M.F.A from San Diego State University and is proud of both her Anishnaabe (Ojibwe) heritage and her membership in United Scenic Artists 829. She is thrilled to be working on the world premiere of Stranger from Paradise.
